About

Rebecca Kabuo is a human rights activist from the Democratic Republic of Congo. At 19, shejoined the non-violent Lutte pour le Changement (LUCHA) meaning ‘Fight for Change’ and calls for greater respect of democracy, fundamental freedoms, and the Constitution in the DRC. She has co-organized over 150 peaceful protests demanding access to clean water, paved roads, free education, and improved living conditions for the Congolese. Her work contributed to Kabila’s decision to step down in 2018.

Work

In 2019, Rebecca joined Goma Actif, a collective that helps people who have been displaced as a result of the conflicts in Eastern DRC. Together with other volunteers, Rebecca distributes warm meals to approximately 2,000 people per day, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with disabilities and health issues. She also runs a free mobile clinic with a doctor and two nurses.
