Sameer Jha
Making classrooms safer for LGBTQI+ students
About
Sameer Jha is an LGBTQI+ activist who, after being bullied throughout elementary and middle school for being too feminine, founded The Empathy Alliance at age 14 to make schools safer for LGBTQI+ youth. Their organization provides LGBTQI+ inclusive books to school libraries and trains teachers and students on bullying and bias prevention. Sameer's efforts involve over 42 schools in San Francisco, reaching 35,000 students.
Work
In an effort to scale faster, The Empathy Alliance decided to prioritize ‘educating the educators’. Through keynotes, workshops, op-eds, radio shows, panels and events, Sameer Jha is reaching millions of people across America with a message of love and empathy. Their book ‘Read This, Save Lives’, is a guide to help teachers create more inclusive classrooms.
