Panel discussion: 'Cybersexism: let's talk about it!' (in French only)
This panel discussion will highlight #YAS24 Laureate Shanley Clémot McLaren & other cybersexism experts. It will be moderated by journalist, author and director Nesrine Slaoui.
About
In recent years, social media have contributed to the fast dissemination of gender-based violence online: insults, mockery, rumors, sharing of intimate videos or photos without consent, pornographic deepfakes, etc.
These forms of violence are spreading online at breakneck speed. Victims often feel helpless and live in constant fear, because this kind of violence doesn't stop once they go home. Cybersexism strikes 24/7, and sometimes has devastating consequences.
But activists, associations and lawyers are standing up to put an end to this scourge that impacts us all.
This panel discussion will honour #YAS24 Laureate Shanley Clémot McLaren. The latter founded the #StopFisha association to protect victims of cybersexism, and has made great strides in this field in France, including the passing of new laws against online gender-based violence, sextortion, pornographic deepfakes and more. Maëlle Roulet, a lawyer specializing in new technologies, and Morgane Bonvallat, founder of the Stop Hate Speech project, will also take part. The event will be moderated by journalist, author and director Nesrine Slaoui.
The audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions, testify, explore concrete solutions and take action in favor of this cause, so join us!
This event is organized by the Young Activists Summit (YAS) and Les Créatives festival, with the support of the City of Geneva and in partnership with the FIFDH.
Wednesday 20 November from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. - Salle communale de Plainapalais, Geneva, Switzerland
